How to Make an Emoji and Download a Transparent PNG

Make a custom emoji step by step: choose a preset, replace facial features, adjust layers and download a transparent PNG in 128, 256 or 512 pixels.

1. Open the maker and choose a starting point

Open the Emoji Maker and select a preset. Each editable preset is built from separate parts. You can also choose a face from the Parts panel and add eyes, a mouth and accessories yourself.

2. Change the expression

Open Eyes or Mouth and select a different part. The new part replaces the previous one in that category. Faces, eyebrows, hats and glasses also replace their existing category; effect decorations can be added as extra layers.

For example, load the rainbow kitten, choose heart eyes and add a flower. The rainbow, eyes and flower remain separate, so adjusting one does not redraw the others.

3. Adjust position, size and layers

Select a part on the canvas or in the layer list. Drag it to move it, use the scale and rotation controls, or enter a position in the inspector. The alignment action returns a part to its face anchor. Layer-order controls let you move a decoration in front of or behind another part.

Use Add text for a caption. Undo and redo can reverse or restore edits. Canvas zoom changes the preview, while Export size sets the dimensions of the downloaded image.

4. Download a transparent PNG

Set Background to Transparent. Choose 128 × 128, 256 × 256 or 512 × 512, then select Download PNG. The checkerboard, selection border and editing handles are excluded from the image.

For a filled background, choose the solid option and pick its color. Download the result before refreshing or leaving, since the editor does not automatically save a draft.

Images from the Emoji Mixer and Emoji Gallery open as a complete image layer. You can resize or rotate the image and add captions or decorations. Its original eyes and mouth cannot be split into editable parts. Choose a maker preset if you want to replace individual facial features.

Download and sharing questions

Why can I not paste my emoji into an app?

Image clipboard support varies by browser and destination app. Where Copy image is supported, it copies a PNG rather than a Unicode character. Download the PNG and attach it if pasting is unavailable.

Does preview zoom change the download size?

No. The export-size selection controls the output dimensions. Preview zoom only changes how large the design appears while editing.

The editor does not create a public design link. Share sends a PNG through a supported device sharing menu; when that is unavailable, download the PNG and send the file.
